- - - NEWS & UPDATES - - -

Lots of changes the next few weeks due to tournaments all over town. There will be no bowling on Sunday mornings at the Gold Coast until Feb. 5th which will be our annual

Super Bowling Tournament that we have on Super Bowl Sunday every year. The tournament is open to everyone and will be handicapped. The format will be 5 games of "no-tap". This means if you bowl a 9 count, it will be scored as a strike. This means higher scores and no missed single pin spares. There will be stepladder finals for the top 3 bowlers and we will have raffle drawings, food, drinks, and other prizes to give away. We will assign an average to anyone without an established "book average". Plan to arrive at the Gold Coast between 8 am and 8:15 am and we'll try to get started by 8:45 or so. We have 24 lanes reserved up until 1 pm although we hope to be done by about noon which will leave plenty of time for those attending Super Bowl Parties later in the day as the game is scheduled to start at approx. 3:30 pm. The cost of the tournament will be $20 instead of $15 with the additional $5 to go into the prize fund. Last year's champ was the always tough Kim Molnar. Here is a link to last year's tournament with lots of pix.

There is no bowling on Sunday afternoons at Sunset Station on Jan. 22, 29, and Feb. 5. We were unable to secure a bowling center for our afternoon classes to be moved on these dates so enjoy the time off from lessons and try to get out and watch some of the Masters Tournament and the other big events in town over the next few weeks. I will be in and out of town several times during this period but will be available for private lessons on certain days. Feel free to call or text anytime if you want to schedule a lesson or have any questions about the schedule or maybe why you're bowling so good or so bad...lol. Duffy, 702-232-9633. You can reach me by email on my cell phone at learntobowl at gmail.com

Congratulations to Vivian Hawkins who is our "Bowler of the Month" this month when she rolled her first 200+ game this week. Not only did she bowl her first game over 200, but she rolled her first game over 250 when she shot a beautiful 255. Excellent Vivian. It wasn't a fluke no matter what you may think. You will be doing that regularly in the coming years.

Congratulations to Gayla Rusch of St. George, Utah who bowled her all time highest series this week when she rolled games of 246, 247 & 267 for a grand total of a whoppin' 760. Great bowling Gayla. If you bowl an 800+ series anytime during league or tournament play (first 3 games) during the 2012 calendar year, I will give you $50.

Congratulations to Bryan & Audrey Mitchell. Both Bryan and Audrey are regulars at Sunset Station Sunday afternoon lessons and have a newly found appreciation for bowling. They are enjoying bowling like they never knew existed just a month or two ago. During sweepers the last week of December in their league, both bowlers won first place in their respective divisions and took home all the cash. Bryan also won first place in the doubles. During lessons on Jan. 1st, Bryan bowled 16 games and averaged approx. 172 for those games. Bryan could barely break 100 just 2 months ago and he is now rolling the ball fantastic with a very powerful hook. Audrey had a high game of 204 this day and averaged approx. 150 over the course of approx. 10 games. Audrey just changed from a 10-lb conventional ball to a 14-lb fingertip drilled ball and is throwing the ball with confidence along with her beautiful form and balance. Stay tuned for more accomplishments for this great team. What other sport can a husband and wife compete both against each other and together as a team and can literally do that for the rest of their lives?

Congratulations to Charlie Nocifora who bowled his all time highest series this week when he shot a fantastic 647 series. All your hard work and changes we've made on Sunday's are paying off. Charlie's previous high series was 632 and he is averaging approx. 15 pins higher than last year. Good job Charlie and see you soon.

Congratulations to 12 yr old Leah Glazer whose feats never cease to amaze me. This time only a week after turning 12, Miss Leah bowled her first 300 game. Although she is yet to bowl the "perfecto" in a league or sanctioned competition, even during a practice session for a 12 year old girl is a major accomplishment. Congratulations Leah and keep up the great bowling and the beautiful smile.

We want to help you bowl better.....come do a few lessons soon.
Our track record of success stories speaks for itself.

1 hour private lessons are $45
1 hour lesson for 2 bowlers - $60
1 1/2 hour group lessons (5-8 bowlers) - $25 each.

First time lessons are usually 90 minutes and most all lessons exceed one hour (you will get tired before I do).
Individual lessons include lineage at most bowling centers (discounts for bowlers who pay for their own lineage).
Lessons are available in other cities/states/countries with travel & expense fees to be determined.
Digital video taping is available that includes a tape to take home with many shots recorded in slo-mo for easy and clear viewing.

Discount plans available for multiple lesson purchases
(highly recommended for the greatest opportunity for improvement).

A.)   5 private 1-hr lessons, 1 private 2-hr video lesson, 6 entries to the Gold Coast Sunday group clinic - $330
(16 hours total of coaching/bowling).
B.)   4 private 1-hr lessons & 4 entries to the Gold Coast Sunday group clinic - $220
(10 hours total of coaching/bowling).
C.)   2 private 1-hr lessons & 2 entries to the Gold Coast Sunday group clinic - $110
(5 hours total of coaching/bowling).
No additional costs with group pricing.

10% discount on purchases of private lessons of 3 or more w/o Sunday group clinics.
Sunset Station groups may be substituted for Gold Coast groups for an additional $5.

Certain group classes are better designed for "tips and pointers", and are excellent for middle to high average bowlers.
They can also be great for newer bowlers who have already had a private lesson or 2 and want to practice things
we've previously worked on without the expense of a private lesson.
What you learn today, doesn't become "muscle memory" until a minimum of 20-30 hours
of effective practice and repetition. The most effective practice is to bowl less games, more often.
Try to avoid long marathon practice sessions when learning new techniques.
Different themes and special guests/coaches at group classes on certain dates
(please check the web site for schedules and any changes).
Feel like you're not moving forward with your bowling game? ..........maybe a lesson or 3 could help!

Learn to Bowl.com Star Bowler of the Month
(December - 2011)

Vivian Hawkins

"Learn to Bowl.com
Star Bowler of the Month".

Congratulations to Vivian Hawkins
for being this month's
Bowler of the Month.

Vivian started doing lessons on Thursday nights with us when we started group lessons there at the Texas Star Lanes at Texas Station. They are the newest addition to our group lessons schedule as we are there on Thursday nights with two 90-minute sessions from 6 to 9 pm. Vivian has been there every week since we started approx. 6 weeks ago and has improved by leaps and bounds. Vivian's goal when we met was to shoot over 100 during her league night of bowling. Over 100 and she was happy, under 100 and she was not happy. Vivian also used to throw a "reverse hook" or "backup ball". Now Vivian hooks the ball as good as anyone, although this change didn't happen without a few frustrations and weeks of training. On Dec. 6th, Vivian bowled a great set with very consistent games of 174, 163, & 146. The following week on Dec. 13th, she bowled 163, 163, & 153. Her team has gone undefeated for most of the month of December and her teammates are now happy again with her. Whewwwww...thought they were going to kill me for awhile there.

On Dec. 29th, Vivian bowled her highest game ever when she pounded out a 192. If it wasn't for a few missed spares, it would have been much higher. Your high scores are just starting and you will have many more opportunities to break 200 and beyond. I'm very proud of you Vivian and admire your perseverance and determination. Thank you so much for the opportunity to help you with your game and congratulations again on the success you've created for yourself as a recreational, yet competitve bowler. I don't care what anyone says...bowling higher scores are more fun, period! If you don't believe me, ask Vivian.
