Friday group & private lessons in Mesquite, NV and Pahrump, NV are coming soon thanks to Gary Higashi in Mesquite and Lorie Hartwell in Pahrump. As we're preparing for our first group lessons at the Virgin River Casino in Mesquite on May 18, I received a call from Lorie, the manager at the Pahrump Nugget Bowl and they want to resume doing lessons there as requested by several of our past students and some new ones. The first scheduled date in Pahrump will be Friday, May 25th and will continue at both locations approx. every 2 weeks. All dates and changes will be posted here on the web site. I believe that every 2 weeks is much more effective for bowlers who really want to improve rather than once a month like we've done in the past.

We've also decided to lower the price to just $20 (includes lineage) in the hopes of having more students, more often. This will inevitably lead to those willing to make a commitment of both time and money to see results faster and higher scores sooner. Higher scores is the ultimate goal, which usually equates to more fun and greater personal satisfaction. No one will become a better bowler in an hour or two. You only become a smarter bowler and now know what to practice and work on. Making changes to muscle memory and learning other aspects of the game takes time and almost always takes reiteration of things we've previously worked on. This is very normal so don't think you can't change if it doesn't happen in one lesson or if you find yourself falling back into old habits. Another aspect for making change is effective practice after a lesson. NOTE: league/tournament bowling or bowling strictly for score is usually NOT effective practice.

I miss seeing so many of the bowlers and friends that I've made over the years when traveling to St. George and Pahrump and other surrounding areas. I'm looking forward to seeing some old faces again and talking bowling or anything else. If a lesson doesn't fit in your schedule or your budget at this time, feel free to at least drop by and say hi.

There will be 2 group sessions going from 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm and from 1:30 pm - 3:00 pm. There will be (3) 75-minute private lesson time slots available also. Those will be from 9:30 am - 10:45 am, 10:45 am - 12:00 pm, and 3:30 pm - 4:45 pm. Cost is $45 for one bowler or $60 for two bowlers (lineage included). There will be a sign-up sheet located in both bowling centers or feel free to call, text, or email. If you sign up and can't make it, please call to cancel in advance.

Many bowlers from Mesquite, St. George, Pahrump, Phoenix, and even as far away as Europe have come to Las Vegas to do lessons with me. Also there have been many Las Vegas bowlers who have traveled to these surrounding cities to do lessons in the past and hope some are able to do that again. Bowling in a different house and adjusting to different lane conditions is always good for your game. What's good for your belly is that on Friday nights at the Eureka Casino in Mesquite is a fantastic seafood buffet that includes lobster tails. In Pahrump, the Saddle West Casino has a seafood buffet and you don't even have to crack the crab legs. I used to eat there every Friday after lessons in years past. So if anyone wants a reason to get out of town, I think you have one or two.

Something I have wanted to do for more than 10 yrs is to start a coaching league. Well, starting on May 29th (Tues. 6:30 pm) for the summer season at Texas Station is a coaching league that I was asked to do the coaching for and was happy to say yes. If anyone is interested in joining that league, please contact Texas Station (702) 631-8388. Our regular group lessons on Thursday evenings at Texas Station will be changed to a different day (TBD) just for the summer as there won't be any available lanes for us on Thursday nights. We could do this in Pahrump or Mesquite also???

Congratulations to 14 yr. old Matt Mora who bowled his all time high game and first game over 200 when he rolled a beautiful 209 game. More about Matt and his acccomplishments in the Bowler of the Month section below.

Congratulations to Kim Molnar who scorched the lanes last Friday night in her league at the Suncoast when she fired a fantastic 3 game series of 635. Awesome bowling Kim. It won't be long before your daughter Ashley will be shooting scores like that as well.

Congratulations to Christina Everett from the Learn to Bowl.com team who bowled her first 200+ game last month at Sunset Station when she rolled a fantastic 207 to start the evening. With your skills and ability, it won't be long before you are bowling 600+ series regularly. Christina just joined the team with her mom Karin who is also anxious to bowl her first 600 series. As a little incentive and to show my appreciation for naming your team "learn to bowl.com", I will give $50 to the first one of you who bowls a 600+ series during the calendar year 2012.

Congratulations to Alfred Mitchell who's at it again with 9 straight 200+ games in his Sunday afternoon league. Recently Al had games of 218, 231 & 226 for a beautiful 675 series.

Our track record of success stories speaks for itself.

Lessons are available in other cities/states/countries with travel & expense fees to be determined.
Digital video taping is available that includes a tape to take home with many shots recorded in slo-mo for easy and clear viewing.

Discount plans available for multiple lesson purchases
(highly recommended for the greatest opportunity for improvement).

A.)   5 private 1-hr lessons, 1 private 2-hr video lesson, 6 entries to the Gold Coast Sunday group clinic - $330
(16 hours total of coaching/bowling).
B.)   4 private 1-hr lessons & 4 entries to the Gold Coast Sunday group clinic - $220
(10 hours total of coaching/bowling).
C.)   2 private 1-hr lessons & 2 entries to the Gold Coast Sunday group clinic - $110
(5 hours total of coaching/bowling).

Sunset Station groups may be substituted for Gold Coast groups for an additional $5.

Certain group classes are better designed for "tips and pointers", and are excellent for middle to high average bowlers.
They can also be great for newer bowlers who have already had a private lesson or 2 and want to practice things
we've previously worked on without the expense of a private lesson.
What you learn today, doesn't become "muscle memory" until a minimum of 20-30 hours
of effective practice and repetition. The most effective practice is to bowl less games, more often.
Try to avoid long marathon practice sessions when learning new techniques.
Different themes and special guests/coaches at group classes on certain dates
(please check the web site for schedules and any changes).
Feel like you're not moving forward with your bowling game? ..........maybe a lesson or 3 could help!

Learn to Bowl.com Star Bowler of the Month
(April - 2012)

Matthew Mora

"Learn to Bowl.com
Star Bowler of the Month".

Congratulations to Matt
for being this month's
Bowler of the Month.

Matthew is one of my favorite and most inspirational bowlers that I've ever had the pleasure of coaching. I first met Matt about a year ago and soon became aware of some tough obstacles that he has learned to overcome since being diagnosed with a brain tumor.  After successful surgery to remove the tumor, Matt had to deal with relearning some of the skills many of us take for granted.  Matt is an avid sports lover and knew that some sports he once played might not be possible in the near future because of how the surgery affected his balance amongst other skills.

As I understand, it was at this time that Matt decided he would like to take up bowling as it doesn't require some of the physical attributes that other sports do. Matt was determined to work hard in his quest to learn to bowl so that he could compete with the other bowlers in his Saturday morning USBC Junior league.

Gutter balls and frustration wasn't about to stop Matt as he persevered week after week to better himself as a bowler. Matt became a regular during our Sunday morning bowling classes and it wasn't long before he was rolling a bowling ball with the skills of a seasoned pro.  I think that some days it comes easier than others, but it still never stops his perseverance to excel. Because balance is so important in the sport of bowling, it's one of the things that we've concentrated on and he's learned to do very well.  It's just a matter of time before his balance will be as good as anyone, including those without any physical challenges and those who've been bowling for many more years.

In April, 2012, Matt broke the 200 scoring barrier when he bowled a fantastic 209 game.  Matt has consistently rolled new high games on a regular basis since we first met as he improves from week to week. By virtue of his improvement over many months and the incredible accomplishments he has made, Matthew won the Learn to Bowl.com Star Bowler of the Month for April, 2012. He also won the most improved bowler award for his league by improving a whopping 28 pins.

It's quite often during a group lesson with Matt that I use him to demonstrate to other students some of his great fundamentals and skills.  It's not unusual that when other students learn of Matt's background and challenges, they are much more apt to work harder (complain less) when trying new techniques that they think may not be possible to perform.  I thank Matt for his inspiration in helping others and for all he does to promote the sport of bowling.

I hope that Matt will be able to accomplish many more goals in his future, both with bowling and with his ability to motivate and inspire every lucky person who has the opportunity to meet this very special young man.
